the elfpath newsletter!

Tell us your ideas to improve Elfpath.

the elfpath newsletter!

Postby Arthurity » Thu Nov 12, 2009 12:14 am

This is the project i have in mind, in order to give something back for all the fun stuff going on here :3 and as grand mistress rohaa has decided, itll be bi-weekly XD

i dont know if "newsletter" is the right word though, since its more than that.. youll notice when i start on my ideas :P
so for this, i can do the interviews, research, i can write everything down (i hope) [and dont worry. my grammar is a lot better when its for something formal like this!], and take care of the basic lay-out. BUT i need some effort from all of you guys. i'll explain while writing down the ideas. youll quickly see this is somewhat of a community effort :mrgreen:

=====
main articles
=====
so these here are the main articles that are pretty much obligatory in my opinion, and will be posted on the first pages of the letter.
==

(I suck at titles for this XD suggestions for titles are always welcome!)

- Enter the Limelight, [name]!

* Here we find out more about a member or a teacher (maybe both), through an interview. Questions that would be asked are obvious ones, like what drew the person to Elfpath, the first impressions, big changes and why they stay, regardless of all the personal or painful things we often talk about and deal with.
* Maybe the victims could be chosen depending on the happenings around the site, or the person in question (birthday, end of a class type [introductry, semi-advanced, advanced], ... )
* What do you need to do? well, be willing to be interviewed. If the people are chosen depending on the happenings, id like to know the reason a certain person would deserve being chosen (like the birthdays or pregnancy, or...)

- What's new?

* A must-have topic! Here, new updates pertaining to the site, classes, or whatever are discussed here. If its big, and part of Elfpath, it goes here.
* what would you need to do? Obviously, if theres something big going on, TELL ME!

- Grab your popcorn...

* Another must-have story! In this one, an interesting, thrilling, moving or amusing topic is discussed. either something a member personally experienced, or something that happened anywhere in the world.
* What would you need to do? Be willing to share! if you have a story, feel free to tell me. If you know of a story that is not personal, but say, appeared in the news or something, tell me too. i can do the research myself if its something like that.

=====
Semi-important stuff
=====
Things that are still pretty important or standard. Appear after the main articles, or on a small space in front, or in between stories.
==

- Featured Technique!

* Here, a random technique gets some special attention. Readers get to read about abilities of maybe basic level, or something very advanced. They get to know how it works, why its used, and get to see proof, if there is any (if there isnt, we could include stuff like "this technique is often utilised in ... religion, or ... sport, yaddayaddayadda).
* What would you need to do? Nothing much. If theres anything you could give me as proof, by all means do share!

- Did you know that?

* Small, but another standard must-have. Here i'll try to write down a few small, but interesting thingies about members, teachers, the site, techniques or certain happenings.
* What would you need to do? Share! If theres a funny detail you know about, something interesting that would be a perfect fit, share it!

- State of The Art!

* With each new letter, i will try to find someone who made an interesting artistic.. something. Be it a drawing, a poem, a dream, an idea, present it to me and together we'll discuss the meaning of it or the story behind it.
* And you? Obviously, if you recently have made or dreamt or thought of something and feel like sharing, do so!

=====
Small stuff
=====
Here go smaller things like credits, birthdays, special moments,... that deserve a quick notice, but cant be transformed into a topic.
==

- Special thanks to...

* pretty much standard. Self-explanatory too.
* You dont need to do a thing :P

- Rejoice!

* Small article displaying birthdays, special moments, holidays,... that happened in the month (or 2 weeks) that the current letter was made.
* You need to share with me if there was a special joyful moment.

- Last Respects.

* Here we display the more sad moments like a death, accident,... that happened in the month (or 2 weeks) that the current letter was made. We also could place a small text like they are engraved in tombstones (like "forever peaceful, at last" or anything like that)
* Again, simply share.

-Quotes Galore!

* Yep. The funny moments in Skype or on the forum, engraved into history forever.
* Share funny quotes or conversation pieces that deserve to go here :)

-Congratulations!

* Just like on the forum. Lets give the students some applause, now shall we? :3
* you dun need to do a darnest thing :P

ALSO NEEDED:
someone who knows how to code an e-mail newsletter. I can use Microsoft Publisher, but i dont know how to send it with hyperlinks and the special format more professional authors use.
MORE SUGGESTIONS XD also, feedback on those already made is always welcome :3

Awesome idea, Epic!
Wouldn't know what else to add, except maybe a corny "dear Angel" column that people can send letters to! :D

In all seriousness, I can do the html for you for the email, though it would probably be better to host it somewhere since some people's inboxes are fairly tiny (and connections slow) which would make downloading a newsletter with images and such a pain. But that won't be a problem either. If it can't be on this site, I can set up one just for this.
So a more inbox-friendly suggestion would be: send a newsletter in plain ascii format to people's inboxes and a link to the superduper one, or just send a "hey the new newsletter is here" thing with a link to the superduper one.

I can also write or interview if you need me, just let me know :) I'm also open for spellchecking.

If you can make this work, and keep it going. amazing! I look forward to seeing it.

As we used to say in computers "Make it work. Then make it work well." Just get something out there and trust it'll improve over time. Don't get caught in trying to make it perfect. :)

peace

Will be to arrive back where we started

ok then, lets get started on gathering intel. first of all, id like you all - if you dont mind - to share me your b-days, or of others you love, anniversaries, or any other happy day, to put in the Rejoice section :3

also, if anyone does NOT feel like being interviewed EVER, please let me know :3 saves both of us the hassle.

and last, for now, if you have any funny chats or quotes to share, or 'did you know that?'' thingies, please let me know as well :3

ATTENTION
people who have skype, you can send all of this through that? its easy and quick. people who dont have it yet can either decide to download it, or send me a pm here. both are fine options by me :3

thanks!

EDIT: thanks for the replies on bdays and stuff. but im still wayyy short on just about everything else :P ill figure out how to fill em up this weekend

I was kinda kidding about the Dear Angel thing, but if he'd be willing to do it that'd be fun.

I think we should do "Enter the limelight, Epic!" first :) I can do the interview if you want.
Perhaps also (if we're lacking material to fill up 2 or 3 pages, otherwise move it to next time) "Enter the limelight, Rohaa and/or Angel".

Perhaps we can do a thing on flamebending since it's something we both know about - and it'll buy us until the next newsletter to figure out a new tech to write on. I'd be willing to write it. I could also try to finish the video before the newsletter comes out so we can link it. (SEND ME YOUR STUFF.) Also, most members already know about SWEET, for example, since it is taught in the classes. Flamebending isn't, so it would make for a much more interesting newsletter, even for long-time members.

I'll also scour my logs for quotes.

Did you know that: there's a newsletter! I bet you didn't since you're reading it! it'll come out so and so often, material and suggestions go here, you can find older copies here... and so on.
Did you know: Elfpath was founded on date x, for this reason, etc. X amount of people have taken the intro course, x have this color belt, etc.

Maybe we can do a "spirituality/teacher/religion of the week" sort of thing. This way we can encourage people to think about different spiritualities and their similarities, maybe find different ways to do techniques, and so on.

Just some suggestions. We should have a chat about this :)

EDIT: i updated the update list, and made it more spiffy.
also, melanie, youre also on the list of the Limelight :P

pretty good suggestions :3 and ill take you on that offer! you can take the interview whenever you feel like. i dunno if i should help out with assempling some Qs, since im the interviewed, but i'll jump right in if theres need to

also, i think it would be fun to do a combined interview.. like an entire/half group being asked the question, rather than one at a time. or two random people, or two teachers and soo oonnn..
so i would LOVE an Angel+Rohaa interview :3 good idea

Next to that, ima gonna put Magda up for an art story, if she doesnt mind of course :3

*also adds Sadalsuud's ghost story* =3

Here's some quotes I've found in the MOTH chatlog.

Rohaa: Reminder: journals, pls to be making them

Rohaa: So if anyone asks what you're learning with this course, you can tell them it's to not walk around on busy streets with blindfolds on.

Magda: And well, we're not making you change the weather just yet so yep, it's our most basic toy.
Nemu: Wait, we can change the weather when we're done with this? :P
Magda: Haha, why not? I haven't tried but I bet my paycheck Rohaa could do it. XD

Rohaa: has anyone while doing SWEET had any physical/emotional pains or weird sensations?
Melanie: When I tried last night I got gas =/

Rohaa: I'd suggest not trying to work with actual fire to experiment with fire grounding. We get enough people burning themselves as is. I'm not training an army of pyromaniacs here.

Rohaa: I've knocked Angel out lots of times.

Rohaa: What's up Robin?
Squigglz|Robin: I'm not weepy. I'm violenty ill. Like. Vomiting.
Rohaa: Yay
Nemu: ...
Squigglz|Robin: ...
Melanie: yay?
Nemu: That's... not the response I was expecting.
