It's possible to look AT anything. An often fun game is to soften your gaze so that everything is just a little out of focus and look AROUND things.
I've done this with others and seen all kinds of interesting things.
Now, if you're looking for a really wild version of this, get a sketch pad or notebook and do a quick sketch of what you see. Have a friend look at the same thing at the same time and sketch their vision. Then compare sketches.
This sounds strange but you can often get very similar results.
I used to do this with someone I knew and after a while we'd see very weird but almost identical things. For instance we once saw two ?people, under a meter tall, dressed up in fancy but outdated dress, flirting with one another one someone's patio. When we talked about it we described everything almost exactly the same.
Another time we described this game to someone who didn't believe any of this stuff. We just showed him how to soft focus. He drew something like a half meter tall mushroom of a specific shape, color, and texture. We drew the very same thing. It spooked him.
Alone or with other open-minded people, this game can be a lot of fun, can help you practice SEEing, and can increase what you're willing to believe in.
peace!

seeing"the other"
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive back where we started
And then to know the place for the first time..

Re: seeing"the other"
My sons and I used to do a version of this. One of them came to me one night, afraid, because he had seen an ugly face on the wall in the wood-grain paneling. I told him it was just his "artists eye" seeing patterns in the wood, and if he'd let his eyes go out of focus, he could make out other pictures in the wood, and anywhere else there was a pattern or texture. So he told his brothers, whenever they were frightened of things in the dark, that their "artist's eye" was seeing these things. Like seeing faces and things in clouds. Even to this day, when they've been bored while waiting in line or something, they will let their eyes lose focus, and make out faces or other items in ceiling tiles, or other places with uneven textures. There was even a particular place in the floor of a building one of my sons and I both worked, that my son told me looked like the face of Spock from Star Trek, but his ears were a bit oversized , and he had a huge grin on his face. I knew exactly where he was talking about, too, because I had seen the same thing!
But this does sound like fun, and I am going to try this, and see what I end up with by drawing things with my eyes out of focus. ^^
