New Curriculum Structure

Postby Rohaa » Sat Aug 20, 2011 3:27 pm

Elfpath is a school, and has been since the beginning. So far, we have structured the courses in our school simply linearly: a stack of 3 month courses that added up will get you all the skills and information you need to become a competent Black Belt.

Since we have gained a lot of experience this summer working with peoeple in person rather than through chat, we had the chance to find some problems in our curriculum - places where people got stuck, or things that were not entirely clear. The new structure described here will fix a decent amount of those.

*

The main thing we are changing, come September, is the structure of our main program. The new set-up looks like this:

>>>
Intro Course
>>>
Basic 1
Basic 2
Basic 3
Basic 4
>>>>
Adv 1
Adv 2
Adv 3
Adv 4
>>>>
Grad studies
Specialisations

NOTE: each course consists of 11 weeks (= 2-hour class + 2-hour checkup), with a 12th week to allow for a vacation week, Q&R, Q&A or extra time, as students prefer.

Although we use a Belt System and are strongly based in skill and experience rather than knowledge, we differ from Martial Arts schools in that we do not have an open dojo where people of all ranks can come and train when they feel like it, or for as many years as they feel like. In this sense, we adopt a model more like a western school, where class attendance is expected, exercises should be done on time. Our classes are taught in a particular temporal and topical order to optmise learning, and taking in between breaks (or over-training!) may actually make your progress harder or get you stuck entirely.

*

Intro Course allows new people to learn the basics and make some very important changes in the way they deal with their energy, emotions and other people. Just doing Intro Course will help you improve your life. When you start it, you commit to finishing the full 11 weeks. Intro Course is and will remain free.

>>>> After Intro Course, where you have gained some experience of your own and where you learned how this process works, you can choose if you want to start the Meta-Intuitive Arts properly. If you do, you can start Basic and commit to a full year of learning and growing. You will be expected to take all 4 courses in Basic, without interruption and without dropping out. The main reason for this is that Basic will stirr up some necessary chaos, and if you walk away without working through it to come out at a stable place, your life will actually be messier. If you don't want to commit to this one year of study, you can continue to use the skills you learned in Intro and proceed to have an easier, less stressfull and happier life.

Basic will lead you on a journey through healing several key energy centres inside, learning to sense and shape energies accurately, and bring your heart online so that you can truly love. By Basic 2, you won't have to worry about growing up to be just like your mother/father and you will be be rid of , and by Basic 3, you will know who you truly are deep inside, how to express that, and how to have a healthy relationships with yourself, friends and lovers. By the end of Basic 4, you should have a Green Belt. Reaching Green Belt can be considered equivalent to reaching a bachelors degree.

>>>> After Basic Course, when your heart is stably online, you can once again choose to take the things you have learned and go live a healthy live, with real love, a sense of personal power and confidence unlike most people you will ever meet, and with the bulk of your emotional and social problems simply gone. If you want more, you can commit to a second year and enroll in the first of the Advanced Courses.

Advanced will bring you an increased awareness of the world around you and the insides of other people, so you know exactly what they need and how to talk to them to best help them. You will learn to deal with any problem that comes up in your life, competently. By the end of Adv 4. you should have a Black Belt. Reaching Black Belt compares to reaching a masters degree in the Meta-Intuitive Arts.

>>>> After your Black Belt, you can continue with a graduate program (comparable to working on your PhD) and specialise in meta-areas of your interest. Reach a Black Belt and then talk to your teacher about options for this.

*

To recap:
* You start Intro and commit to 3 months of classes.
* You choose if you want to continue into bachelors studies or not.
* You start Basic and commit to 4 x 3 months, so one year.
* You choose if you want to continue into masters studies or not.
* You start Advanced and commit to 4 x 3 months, so one year.
* You choose if you want to continue into grad studies or not.

This will offer more structure, create a bigger commitment and clearer goals, and allows for three stable points where you can choose to take what you have learned and leave the school.

I am really liking this set up. It's got a lot more flow to it than when I first started EP. I can't wait to jump in and see how well this will work.

This set-up means that to continue, people need to have achieved a certain belt level, yes? So after the course they've taken, and they still need a belt-level up because they were running behind a bit... Do those people still get the guidance and counselling like when they were still going through the course? Since technically they're not students in this in-between period, some might say the prioroty is lower than for actual students.

People need to have a Green Belt before they can start Adv Courses. I'm requiring a Yellow Belt before they can start Basic. With the changes we've made to the classes in Intro, this should be entirely possible.

Ideally, people should be able to smoothly transition from Basic to Adv - but we'll have to test how that works in practise, of course. Doing the exercises taught in the classes will get you to a certain level... IF You do the exercises. If you don't, taking the classes is pointless. So our focus and priority will be on those students actually doing the work and making the progress.

As we talked about Challenge Room, we're shuffeling our class groups around come September - a group 1 and 2 that Cas and I will teach personally, where group 1 consists of Green Belts who are dedicated, movitated and excited about helping us build this school, and group 2 will consist of Orange Belts who are showing a lot of promise and discipline and who are pushing to get their heart online and be more involved. With the rest of the students, we'll make groups 3 and 4 that will be taught by the people from group 1. These are the ones who like hanging out and having people to talk to, and who like learning some new things now and then, but who want to be free to take a few months or weeks off whenever they like, and who like exercises to be optional. Whereas that attitude is nice and I understand they've gotten used to it the last year or so - this is not an attitude that works with a school. They're still very welcome to hang out in the tea house and ask the older students for help when they need, and the ones who want will still have some classes. (This does not apply to new Intro students, we ask commitment from them from the beginning).

So my personal priorities will be: group 1, group 2, Elfpath curriculum. The rest of the students are very welcome to any spare time I have after those three have their needs met.
