There are three commonly used definitions for magic (from: thefreedictionary.com):

1. The art that purports to control or forecast natural events, effects, or forces by invoking the supernatural.
2. The exercise of sleight of hand or conjuring for entertainment.
3. Possessing distinctive qualities that produce unaccountable or baffling effects.

The last one comes closest to what we understand to be magik. We do not invoke the supernatural (ghosts, entities, and such), nor do we try to control or forecast natural events. We are not trying to entertain or perform tricks. We simply shape distinctive energetic qualities into an object, such that it produces really amazing effects that modern science currently can't explain. On an energy level, it is not so different from putting sugar in your coffee so that it tastes better and gives you more energy.

To distinguish from the previous two meanings of the word, we've chosen to use the word magik instead of magic or magick.

To any civilisation, magik is something that their current understanding of the world does not yet know how to explain, and so they call it supernatural, from the gods, from the devil, and such. They find it really amazing and usually assume it is outside the range of the natural world -- just because they do not yet understand how it works.

If you were to show an isolated aboriginal tribe an airplane, they would probably think it magik. If you were to show someone in the Dark Ages a modern car, they would probably think it magik. This is a common idea, and many movies have played with the concept. The meta-, including the shaping of energy in objects, is no different.

Magik in the sense we mean it is simply a science at its very early stages, just like evolutionary biology was at its early stages when Darwin sailed out on the Beagle to compare the beaks of birds. He didn't have machines that analysed DNA, but his work helped us develop evolutionary theories, and now we do have the technology to measure something he could only talk about in abstracts.

A few hundred years from now, we will likely have a much better understanding of the more subtle energies and of physics. We will probably have developed either technology to register it accurately, or developed our natural senses to perceive them, or both. We have to start somewhere.

Why do we work with magik? Why should you want to?

Why would you use a dish washer, or central heating, or a computer? Simple. Because it is there. Because using magik can make your life and the lives of those around you easier and more fun. Because it allows you to explore new parts of yourself.

Energy exists in all of the natural world, and we are constantly affecting not only each other's physical forms and behaviour, but also each other's emotion and energy. Given that we all are doing this subconsciously anyway, we prefer to learn to do it on purpose, in the healthiest way possible. This way, we avoid unintentionally hurting other people, and it allows us to intentionally help them in ways we otherwise couldn't.

Using the natural Meta-Intuitive Gifts that all of us are born with. If the more subtle energies are part of the natural world just like the more obvious energies that we can perceive (physical bodies, emotions), then it is no more than logical that we have natural ways to perceive and influence them. Each of us is born with such gifts, just like each of us is born with particular cognitive or physical skills, like math, art, athletics, language, and the like.

Our program teaches people how to start using their natural gifts again, to intentionally sense and shape their own energies and those around them, rather than letting their subconscious do it all by itself. We feel that being more aware allows you to make better informed decisions about how you choose to affect yourself and your world.
