Family

Family are those who are tightly connected to Elfpath, who are students with us, who spend time in our Tea House chatroom and share their lives and progress and wisdom and sometimes rough times with all of us, so that we can learn from it and teach them in turn. Many of our students say that Elfpath feels like family. It is. And anyone is welcome.

Books

You can find Elfpath's Amazon.co.uk wishlish here. These are books we need as research and reference material for our upcoming Minors but can't afford. Any help much appreciated.

The Essential Crazy Wisdom, by Wes "Scoop" Nisker.

The Essential Crazy Wisdom

This absolutely brilliant book brings together the wisdom of many cultures and many different world views in a fast paced, always doubtful and often insightful journey with crazy visionaries like Rumi, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, Franz Kafka, the Buddha, and many more.

Wes Nisker puts the masters of Eastern philosophy in a room with those of Western philosophy and science, and lets them decide amongst themselves what's true. What follows is a book where great jesters and holy fools across the ages are introduced to each other and argue...but also agree surprisingly often.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is willing to accept that they may not know everything. If you read nothing else on this list, read this. Whether you're a sceptic, a scientist, an experienced intuitive student or all of the above, you will find a wealth of wisdom in this book, and more importantly: it will make you think.

Read Crazy Wisdom on Google Books.

Illusions, by Richard Bach.

Illusions

Illusions is the story of a reluctant car mechanic/Messiah, who knows that the world is an illusion, and who is therefore not limited by it. Fed up after years of people flocking to him to see his miracles but never listening to his words, Donald Shimoda has quit the Messiah business and is now giving rides on airplanes for $3.

Illusions is also the story of Richard, who after meeting him in a field unwittingly finds himself drawn in by the strangeness surrounding Donald. Spending time with Donald, Richard begins to see that what seemed to be impossible is possible after all - and that he can do it, too. It's not easy. Donald has no intention of playing teacher, and Richard isn't even sure he wants to learn.

Reading Illusions, you are never quite sure what is real and how much you are supposed to believe - but you keep reading, because the story is at once a powerful and an entertaining one, the writing is easy and light. Despite that, there is so much wisdom and provoking ideas interlaced with the adventures of Richard that you won't be able to put Illusions down. And when you finally do, you'll be left wondering if maybe...just maybe.

Messiah's Handbook, by Richard Bach.

Messiah's Handbook

"Where do you learn all this stuff, Don? You know so much, or maybe I just think you do. No. You do know a lot. It is just practise? Don't you get any formal training to be a Master?"

"They give you a book to read."

Messiah's Handbook is a little jewel full of quotes from Illusions and other works by Richard Bach, providing wisdom and wake up calls for those of us who are trying to find their way back to their Self. When you're struggling or in need of a little advice, open this book and it will tell you what you need to hear.

The Return of the Serpents of Wisdom, by Mark Amaru Pinkham.

The Return of the Serpents of Wisdom

Throughout history, the serpent has been a symbol of wisdom and of healing. Many ancient records speak of spiritual masters, priest-kings, patriarchs and founders of early civilisations who arrived in these lands after abandonning their beloved home lands across the seas, and all of them referenced the serpent in their name and teachings. And this is not the only similarity between them.

The Return of the Serpents of Wisdom speaks of the men and women across civilisations who have carried this ancient wisdom to the indigenous people. Sometimes people saw them as gods, sometimes as teachers. Sometimes they were worshipped and had temples built for them, as to these early cultures they seemed like they must be divine. Near always they were honoured by those who knew them. Regardless of culture or time, the Serpents of Wisdom always worked towards a common goal, spreading wisdom and advancement throughout this world so that we can all come to live in harmony with that larger awareness.

Whether you read this because you remember living in one of these ancient home lands, because you're looking for something to trigger memories, or because you're interested in how these Serpents of Wisdom could have influenced so many civilisations across the globe (and why), you'll find a very detailed overview here, based on manuscripts, recordings and verbal traditions. If the detailed anthology cannot hold your attention, the first two chapters are definitely worth a read.

Read The Return of the Serpents of Wisdom on Google Books.

Return of the Bird Tribes, by Ken Carey.

Return of the Bird Tribes

Speaking from a larger awareness, Return of the Bird Tribes recounts the way our brothers and sisters have incarnated into human form throughout the history of North America, guiding humanity and working to return them to a state of harmony.

Those of us who feel they came here for a purpose may find Ken Carey's words very familiar. Beautifully written, it shows the history of our spiritual awareness, the reason why so many of us came here at this time, and our relation to this planet. To some of you, reading this will feel like coming home. To others, it is an amazing story of intuitive knowledge, wisdom, and a reminder of the loving help of those who watch over you.

The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron.

The Artist's Way

Subtitled "A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity", this book is about more than just art, and you don't need to be an artist to find something of value in it. That said - everyone can be creative, and thus an artist. And since creativity's opposite - destruction - is often the result of unchanneled energy, it is a healthy occupation for everyone working on discovering their own spirituality and intuition to create. This book helps you with that.

"The Artist's Way" covers a topic per week (or, per chapter), and covers subjects like recovering a sense of identity, power, integrity, abundance, connection, strength, autonomy, and many more. Each chapter gives you some theory, and a list of tasks to do that week, as well as a list of questions to see how it went.

Both for students of the Intuitive Arts and for other artists, this book offers a wonderful way to get in touch with the creative aspect of yourself, and to ask yourself some fundamental questions. It's also a lot of fun.

The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz.

The Four Agreements

It's just a thin little book, but the message in The Four Agreements is a big one. In it, Miguel Ruiz tells us why we have so many self-limiting believes, and where they come from.

The wisdom of the Toltecs helps us to stop limiting ourself. Through breaking our old agreements and accepting four simple new agreements, this book explains how we lost our freedom, and how we can regain it. The four agreements, each described in a chapter, are:
- Be Impeccable with Your Word
- Don't Take Anything Personally
- Don't Make Assumptions
- Always Do Your Best

Considering its size, The Four Agreements holds a surprising amount of wisdom, and is very easy to read, understand, and use in your every day life. You don't need to be a scholar to get this little jewel. Definitely recommended. Google Books has bits of it.

The Gift, by Hafiz.

The Gift

Hafiz, born as Shams-ud-din Muhammed around 1320 in Persia, is a most amazing poet who has a connection to the heart and to the divine so strong that anyone who listens cannot but feel the deep love and awareness in his words. His poems are sometimes short and sweet, sometimes slightly crazed, and other times seem to dance with delight and excitement. They touch something inside us that makes us say "Yes, this, I knew this!"

What
Would
Happen if God leaned down

And gave you a full wet
Kiss?

Hafiz
Doesn't mind answering astronomical questions like that.

A limited preview of Hafiz' work is at Google Books, and our own Elfipedia page has some examples

The Soul of Rumi, by Rumi.

The Soul of Rumi

Rumi lived a hundred years before Hafiz did. His beautiful ecstatic poems are widely known today, and not just by his Dervish followers. He came from a long line of spiritual men and sufi's in Persia. Not only did he follow in his father's footsteps, he grew bigger, and with his intricate imagery and beautiful words won the hearts of generations.

He speaks about the amazing experience of going beyond our physical and earthly constraints and going up into that larger universal awareness that can drive a man mad - but also of taking that larger awareness and going back to living a normal life, enjoying the small things.
