I have submitted my time preferences (I think), but when I return to my Your Elfpath page nothing seems to have changed. Is this how it should be? Can I check somewhere if everything went right?

Same here, I think the information is stored in a Database/ text file. The site where you filled in does not 'recall' that information, so it would seem for you, as if nothing had been selected.

I figured as much but thought I'd still ask. It could be the script wasn't working or something.
I also have a lot of security add-ons installed, which sometimes cause things to not work.
