I was quite shocked to see the entire 'New posts" part of the forum index flooded by spam threads, something I have never before witnessed on the Elfpath forums.
In light of this I suggest that new accounts' forum access be restricted to the section where new members can introduce themselves, until a moderator has scanned this person and given them full forum access. On another forum I am a member of this works quite well.
This would also help keep journals more private from non-EP members.
On the other hand, this could be just a one-time incident, but it never hurts to take measures to keep the forums a safe and pleasant place for us all.

Good idea!

It's a good idea for when it starts really become a problem, but this was the first time I've had to deal with a spammer, and it was a simple matter of "delete user" after the user didn't respond to a PM (but did continue spamming). Unless it becomes very necessary, I'd prefer to keep our forums open and easy access.
Journals are currently restricted to people with an account. I agree that this makes them easily accessible to just about anyone who wants to go through the trouble of signing up, but I feel they help especially new people to see how our process works, what sort of things older belts learn, and what they deal with.

and allow yourself to have it.
